William Shakespeare wrote in Julius Caesar, "A soothsayer bids you beware of the Ides of March." Not so, Mr. Shakespeare, not today.Spring is only five days away but the very best part has already arrived. The azaleas. So all hail the amzin' azaleas. Giant pillows ringing huge oak trees who spread their multicolor palette all over our landscape. Rolling waves of purple, red, white and pink that only bloom for a couple of weeks. The big blossomed azaleas that dominate our north Florida landscape are Southern Indian hybrids. Our native azaleas grow in spindly stalks of spiky flowers and are not as showy as the imports. The world thinks our signature of spring is the Dogwood which is a one-trick pony that hails the coming of Easter. Its blossoms are often compared to popcorn silouetted against a blue sky. Go ahead, y'all, think that but we know better.
