This is for anyone who lives or ever lived in My Town; visited or plans to visit My Town, knows anyone who has lived or visited My Town or has ever even heard of My Town.
An All American City it sits on the highest above sea-level elevation in the state of Florida and is composed mostly of streets going north and south. If you take the scenic drive around the court house square you wind up on the street you started on. The only way to get out of downtown is to turn around and come back when you reach Gretna.
All directions start with, "Go down King Street" and include the phrase, "When you see the court house square." Except in Tallahassee where all directions begin with, "Go to the west side Wal-Mart".
King Street has no beginning and no end and is not to be confused with King Place, Martin Luthur King Road, Havana Highway, SR-12, Pat Thomas Expressway and King Solomon Dairy Road.
Towners know their way to work and their way home. The 8:30 am rush hour starts at 5:00 am on the Attapulgus Highway and ends at 11:00 pm on the Attapulgus Highway. Except on Friday.
There's one gate in and out of My Town's airport in a dirt field east of town. Passengers bring sunscreen and watch out for armadillos and skydiving clubs. Everybody is called "Sir" and "Maam" if they are holding their head sidways.
If there is a remote possibility of a depression, tornado or hurricane the city is paralyzed. City and County offices close, grocery stores sell out of toilet paper, flashlight batteries, beer, videos, neck bones and the National Inquirer. Breaking news alerts are broadcast on radio and tv every 15 minutes and our schools shut down.
There are 50,000 species of snakes in the State and 49,999 of them are in My Town. That goes for love bugs, lightning bugs, kudzu, alligators, ticks, and all terraine vehicles.
